The BVI joined hundreds of countries around the globe in celebration of World AIDS Day on Tuesday, 1 December.
In observance, the HIV/AIDS Foundation offered free and confidential HIV testing at the Noel Lloyd Park. The 2015 highlight for the Foundation was its new testing method.
This year the organization had new testing kits, which allowed persons to get results through oral swab samples, eliminating the traditional blood sample method. Participants remarked that the process was completely painless!
The Foundation also ascribed to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) pledge “to take innovative steps so the world can meet the Sustainable Development Goal target of ending the epidemic by 2030.”
The Day was created by WHO as one of its global public health campaigns, World Aids Day was the first ever global health day. Currently in its 28th edition, it was observed for the first time in 1988.
