BVI GETS MAJOR EXPOSURE IN TRAVEL SUPPLEMENT OF
HIGH-CIRCULATION ITALIAN NEWSPAPER

By Giorgio Migliavacca

On 20 January the British Virgin Islands has attracted the attention of millions of Italian readers with a major, 12-page feature penned by Valentina Insinna and published by the travel supplement “I Viaggi” of one of the largest dailies, “La Repubblica”.

Featured on the front cover of the travel supplement is a breathtaking view of Virgin Gorda. A two-page spread featuring a very impressive view of Long Bay beach (West End) welcomes the readers. Just about all the landmarks, major attractions, hotels, resorts, villas and marinas receive great exposure. Jost Van Dykes hero gets his share and Foxy is presented to the Italian public as a mythical figure.

And the BVI is a place to spend your honeymoon, or better yet - a place where you can get married in three days says “I Viaggi”. Wedding in BVI package deals offered by Long Bay Beach Hotel, Travel Plan, Little Dix Bay, and Biras Creek are discussed in great detail.

The Bougainvillea Clinic attracts a nice write-up in a sidebar, and more breathtaking pictures of Virgin Gorda, The Baths, Peter Island, Anegada and Frenchman's Cay keep the reader’s adrenaline flowing.

The food scene receives due attention and the local specialties such as rice & peas, pumpkin soup, lobster, mutton stew and seafood are highly praised. Most importantly, the article says that in the BVI there is good food and it need not be expensive. Restaurants mentioned in the article include: Sky World, Garden Restaurant (Long Bay), Sugar Mill, Callalloo, Cafesito, Cow Wreck Beach (Anegada), Club Paradise and Bath & Turtle.

The 12-page feature on the BVI is really packed with useful, detailed, well-researched and accurate information. Of course now Italians know that we attract the rich and the famous - such as Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, John Travolta, and Michael Jackson. Necker Island is described as the millionaires island. Knowing how fashion conscious Italians are - expect a lot of them in the months and years ahead.
