Karl Dawson Named
Vice President of HLSCC

Mr. Karl Dawson, former Dean of Arts and Sciences at H. Lavity Stoutt Community
College, has been named Vice President of the institution.
Mr. Dawson was one of four short-listed candidates for the position of Vice
President interviewed by a Vice Presidential Search Committee, which was
appointed by HLSCC’s Board of Governors and chaired by Dr. J. S. Archibald, Q.C.
Of the short-listed candidates, two were from the British Virgin Islands, while
the other two were from the United States.
HLSCC’s Board of Governors, at its meeting on December 5, 2006, unanimously
approved the Search Committee’s recommendation that Mr. Dawson be appointed to
the post of Vice President.
Mr. Dawson is presently on study leave from HLSCC pursuing postgraduate studies.
He has previously served as both a member of faculty and as an administrator at
HLSCC for some 12 years.
Mr. Dawson holds degrees in hospitality (B.Sc., University of the West Indies),
educational leadership (M.Ed., Wright State University), and is currently
completing the final stages of a doctoral degree in higher education
administration at the University of Florida at Gainesville, with the expectation
of achieving the degree by May 2007.
He has been appointed to the post of Vice President with effect from January 1,
2007, a date on which he indicated he will be available, for a term of three
years.
The post of Vice President became vacant at HLSCC with effect from November 27,
2006, following the conclusion of services provided by Association of Community
College Trustees (ACCT) Consultant, Dr. Craig Washington, as Interim Vice
President.
HLSCC President Dr. Michael O’Neal conveyed initial notification of the
appointment to Mr. Dawson on behalf of HLSCC’s Board of Governors. .
