23-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY AT CHIEF MINISTER’S
RESIDENCE
23-year-old
Keenan Kendell Bethlemy, a native of Trinidad of no fixed place of abode was
arrested over the holidays for the offence of Burglary.
Bethlemy’s
arrest is in connection with the Unlawful Entry into the home of a resident of
McNamara and the Unlawful Entry into the home of the Chief Minister.
Police mounted
an investigation on December 20th 2006, after receiving information
of an intrusion of the Chief Minister’s residence at Mac Namara. Police reports
indicated that the Chief Minister, Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith arrived home
and observed a man in the master bedroom. Investigations later revealed that
the intruder entered the residence through a closed but unlocked door and
managed to escape through his point of entry by jumping over the porch and
disappearing in the yard.
A number of
personal items were reported missing from the residence, however the Chief
Minister was not physically hurt or assaulted in any way during the incident.
Bethlemy
appeared at Magistrate’s Court on December 29th 2006, where he faced
two counts of burglary and one count of Unlawful Possession of Cannabis; he was
remanded in Police custody until his next appearance which is set for January 5th
2007.
Ag. Deputy
Commissioner of Police, Jacob George told the Police Information Office that
Bethlemy only arrived in the territory on December 17th 2006 and may
be wanted by authorities in other Caribbean islands for similar offences.
