WOMEN
MAKING HISTORY

Women Composers made history on 9 December 2006 when their
Virgo Lauratana Mass was performed at the Main Altar of St. Peter
Basilica in Rome. According to the Vatican Radio it was the first time in the
Basilica’s history that music composed by women was performed during a service.
The Mass was written by members of the ArteMusica of the Marches headed by their
president Maestro Paola Ciarlantini. The other women composers are: Barbara
Polacchi, Roberta Silvestrini, Stefania Spadini, Sara Torquati, Loredana Toto’,
and Francesca Virgili. They are pictured here with the Pope’s Vicar (Deputy) for
the Vatican City, Archbishop Monsignor Angelo Comastri. Over 2,000 persons
witnessed the historic event which ended with a standing ovation lasting several
minutes.

Maestro Ciarlantini has recently composed a song titled
“Peace in the World” for BVI artist Vernon Pickering. The song is part of
Vernon’s new album and is published by Warner Chapell. The album titled “The
Eyes of Love” will be available for downloads on the net worldwide at sites like
iTunes, iMusic, Napster and other 120 major music portals beginning in March
2007.
