FOUR ORDERED DEPORTED
FROM TERRITORY
His
Excellency Governor Thomas Macan has signed deportation orders for four persons
convicted of offenses including drug possession, theft, smuggling, burglary, and
illegal entry.
The
deportation orders were made on the recommendation of the Chief Immigration
Officer and on the advice of Chief Minister Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith.
The deportees are nationals of Jamaica, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and the
United States of America.
The Chief
Minister said Government intends to work closely with the National Intelligence
Coordinating and Tasking Committee to heighten surveillance activity of persons
who are here illegally, are unemployed, or are loitering with no intent. The
National Intelligence Coordinating and Tasking Committee comprises top police,
customs, and immigration officials and is tasked with identifying security
threats and developing ways in which to combat those threats.
The
Immigration and Passport Ordinance allows deportation of non-belongers who have
been convicted of an offence within the Territory punishable with imprisonment
for three months or more.
Acting Chief
Immigration Officer Mr. Malverne Brathwaite said that the Immigration Department
will not hesitate to deport persons who fit these criteria. “Most certainly the
Department of Immigration will work urgently and forthrightly to ensure that
persons who are undesirable and not conducive to the public good are deported
through the proper procedures of the law,” he said.
The persons
approved for deportation are:
Robert
Haldon Ayars (United States of America); convicted of possession of a controlled
drug, namely cannabis.
Roy Skinard
Massicot (Dominica); convicted of illegal entry into the Virgin Islands,
smuggling, and failing to land when ordered by a customs officer.
Robert
Thompson (Jamaica); convicted of overstaying his landing permit and theft.
Kyle
Cleveland Weekes (St. Kitts and Nevis); convicted of burglary.
