Mystics' Garvin Stevens scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half

Disciples facing elimination in Big Ballers series

There’s no other choice. The Disciples MUST win tonight’s 7 p.m. BVI Big Ballers A division match up against All Ah We, or accept being swept in the best of five series after giving away game two—a contest they lead before a last quarter collapse.

Limited to nine first quarter points, All Ah We outscored the Disciples 43-35 in the second half, for a come from behind 71-68, victory to take a 2-0 lead in Sunday’s game at the Multipurpose sports Complex. The Disciples who held a 32-28 halftime edge, stayed ahead of All Ah We through the early part of the fourth quarter. Lyle Duggins who was scoreless in the first quarter, counted 16 of his 20 points in the second and third quarters to help All Ah We seal the victory. He also had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Chaurbin Smith, also scoreless in the first quarter, finished with 14 points. Eustace just missed a double double with nine points and 14 rebounds.

Disciples’ Winston Farrington tallied 16 of his game high 21 points in the third and fourth quarters, after missing the first quarter. Wayne Campbell notched 11 of his 17 points in the second and third quarters and hit the boards for 14 rebounds to keep the Disciples in the game for the first three quarters. Jason Taylor added 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

In Friday night’s opener, All Ah we defeated the Disciples 85-74, in overtime. Nathaniel Malone led All Ah We with 22 points. Lyle Duggins followed up with 21 points and seven rebounds, to go with four steals and four assists. Edred ‘Beef’ Stoutt contributed an 18 point 15 rebound double double.

Jason Taylor had a game high 28 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead the Disciples. Wayne ‘Baby Fat’ Campbell finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter. All Ah We eliminated the Guns with an 84-78 victory, while the Disciples needed overtime to beat the Fryers 93-85, in overtime, after an 84-70 loss.

The showdown between the Virgin Gorda Mystics and the East Rockers is now a best of three series, after the Mystics’ 23-point 77-54, Sunday night victory evened their B division championship series at 1-1.

The Mystics took control of the game from tip off and limited two East Rockers players to double digits, to avenge Saturday night’s 16-point 95-79 loss. The Mystics who never trailed in the game, opened with a 25-11 first quarter run, to build a 47-26 halftime lead, which they extended to 66-37 by the end of the third quarter.

Garvin Stevens who scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half, narrowly missed a double double with nine rebounds in leading the Mystics scores. Devon Watts and Gary Hillhouse followed up with 13 points respectively. Watts also pulled 13 rebounds while Hillhouse grabbed eight. Bruce Davis added another 12 points. Point guard David ‘Bolo’ Lettsome led the East Rockers with 15 points, while center Dwayne ‘Kobo’ Penn tossed in 12. Lettsome snatched a game high18 rebounds and Penn seized 12. Cardinal ‘Wolf’ Fahie poured in another 14 points with 10 rebounds and three steals.

The East Rockers took a 1-0 Friday, following a 95-79, victory over the Mystics. Lettsome scored 17 of his game high 24 points in the first half, in helping the East Rockers to a 48-32 halftime lead. He also had 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jahmal ‘Trigga’ Rabsatt scored the bulk of his 15 points in the third and fourth quarter, as the Mystics shut down Lettsome. Rabsatt had five steals and five assists. Fahie tossed in 20 points including four of seven 3-pointers, while Penn finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Mystics pulled within five points early in the fourth quarter, before a controversial call against center Trevor ‘West’ Stevens, swung the momentum back to the East Rockers and Penn scored the and one bucket before his shot was called off by referee Nelson ‘Jo Jack’ Hull. Stevens was given a technical foul for pushing a player in the back then Hull allowed Penn to shoot two foul shots, even though the East Rockers were not in bonus. This infuriated Mystics’ coach Arnold ‘Shockers Collins, as he couldn’t understand why Penn was given two foul shots which he made after the and one was called off, and the East Rockers were not in bonus. The referees counted the basket that Hull called off, and counted Penn two free throws—one as the penalty shot for the and one, the other was for the technical foul given to Stevens, that triggered the Rockers’ momentum.

Mystics Keithroy Farrell had 21 points and 5 assists. Garvin Stevens missed a double double with 17 points nine rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Jeffrey Allister poured in 11 while Gary Hillhouse who also fouled out in the fourth quarter, had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Stevens finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds. The Rockers advanced to meet the Mystics after a 94-82 triumph over the Rebels.
