Police Commissioner Barry
Webb
Police Commissioner
will not resume duties
His Excellency
Governor Thomas Macan has announced that Mr. Barry Webb will not resume duties
as Commissioner of Police of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
According to
Governor Macan, the decision was taken in the best interest of the Territory,
following consultation with Chief Minister Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith.
The Governor
stated that, although the Commissioner continues to make good recovery from the
injuries inflicted on him last October, his resumption of office is not now
foreseen. Until such time as a substantive appointment is made, Mr. Reynell
Fraser will continue to act in the office of Commissioner. “This is an
announcement that I make with very real regret,” commented Governor Macan.
“During his time as Commissioner, Mr. Webb brought about significant
improvements in the standing and capabilities of the Royal Virgin Islands Police
Force.”
The Governor
said Mr. Webb has been subject to some quite unjustified personal criticism,
delivered under circumstances which left him unable to respond. “I hope that all
in the BVI will join me in wishing the Commissioner and his wife full health and
enjoyment in their future life,” he said.
