KITEBOARDING DOCUMENTARY FILMED IN  BVI

A television crew out of Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. left the territory last week after filming footage for a programme to be aired on Outdoor Life Network.

The show involved the filming a group of elite kiteboarders participating in that activity as they sailed around the islands of the BVI from June 14-21.   Kiteboarding incorporates the concept of gliding on a surf board and then being lifted up into the air on a kite.

Outdoor Life Network has a viewing audience of 68 million people.

The filming of the show in the BVI was the result of a collaborative arrangement between international yacht charter company, The Moorings, Slingshot, a premier manufacturer of kiteboards and the BVI Tourist Board. The Moorings showcased their signature yachts which took the kiteboarders and crew around the BVI, Slingshot featured their kiteboards ridden by top international kiteboarders and the BVI Tourist Board fulfilled its objective of promoting the overall destination.

Two-time kiteboarding world champion, nineteen year-old Martin Vari of Argentina and others spent the week  kiteboarding, sailing around aboard Moorings yachts and capturing the scenery on Tortola,

Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Norman Island. They also spent some time kiteboarding with famous adventurer and owner of Necker Island , Sir Richard Branson.

The Tourist Board cosponsored the filming of the show along with the Moorings and assisted with the coordination on-island arrangements for the project.Public Relations Manager Keith Dawson said the Board expects to receive high quality professional footage from the shoot, which will be used in upcoming media projects and the BVI also will be given advertising spots in the show as a benefit of their collaboration. “This project is a very good example of industry partnership, where the Board was able to collaborate with an industry player on a promotional opportunity and expand on that opportunity to benefit the entire destination,” Mr. Dawson said.  “I would like to express my thanks to the many businesses who assisted in making this project a success including Foxy’s, Anegada Reef Hotel, Bitter End Yacht Club and Pirates on Norman Island.  With such partnerships we can achieve much for the destination,” he concluded.
