 Peter Island Opens Spa Facility

On 5 January the Peter Island Resort added another first class feature to its hotel when they officially opened the doors of their spa for business.

This 10,000 square foot spa has both men’s and women’s locker rooms, private steam rooms, relaxation lounge, retail boutique, 10 indoor treatment rooms, two manicure stations, two pedicure thrones, hair salons, outdoor relaxation pool, spa café, offsite fitness center, offsite group exercise studio and two outdoor bohios (treatment rooms) which can be rented for half-day. In addition the Peter Island Spa adopts an earthly ambiance in tune with the beautiful Caribbean Sea embracing it. The abundant fresh flower and luscious fragrance of the aromatherapy candles in the reception area enhance one’s sense of tranquility upon entering setting the mood for the tropical scrubs, massages, and water treatment to indulge in.

Chief Minister Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith attended the opening ceremony and pointed out that  “spas have become synonymous with fine resorts and it is great that Peter Island is keeping faith with such tourism trends".

"I commend Peter Island Resort on the investment made, it is a clear indication of their consistent commitment to the BVI Tourism product by helping the BVI to remain competitive”. The Chief Minister praised the hard -working staff of the Resort for making the visitors experience an unforgettable one, he also thanked the   management of this fine resort for their vision of a luxury hotel and beach resort and for helping the BVI to rank among some of the finest tourist attractions in the world.

“Here on Peter Island, you continue to provide jobs for the people of the BVI,” said the Chief Minister. “I am pleased that local contractors Boysie Fahie, George Turnbull, Ifield Hodge, Glen Industrious, Carl Christopher and their crews had the opportunity to use their skills on this project. We do have quality contractors in the BVI.”

The Chief Minister said Government will continue to promote the involvement of BV Islanders in major investments in the Territory, as this is part of his administration’s opportunity agenda.              “Our overall aim is to improve and maintain the quality of life and standard of living for BV Islanders and residents alike,” he said.

Dr. Smith also expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the Government and people of the Territory on the recent passing of Mr. Jay Van Andel, one of the founders of Peter Island Resort. He described Mr. Van Andel as the epitome of excellence and high standards as evidenced by the Amway products that continue to be sold worldwide.

Dr. Smith said Mr. Van Andel has left his footprints of tourism excellence and best business practices on the shores of the BVI, and his vision for a luxury facility continues to be fulfilled.

Chief Executive Officer of the Peter Island Resort Mrs. Barbara Gaby, who is the daughter of Mr. Van Andel, said she is constantly working with the BVI Tourist Board on various initiatives to improve the industry. General Manager Ms. Sandra Grisham chaired the ceremony.

Government’s Legislative Agenda for the period 2003 to 2007 encourages further resort and hotel development, including the establishment of a five-star facility and golf course.

Persons interested in savoring this wonderful spa experience are asked to make reservations in advance to ensure the availability of their desired time, because the earlier the reservation the greater the chances are that the preferred day and time will be available. The therapist at Peter Island also recommends that customers arrive 30 minutes prior to their appointment so that they may enjoy the eucalyptus steam and fresh juices that are available.
