Dancia Penn, QC, is the new Deputy Governor

Her Majesty The Queen has been pleased, by instructions conveyed through the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, to appoint Mrs. Dancia Penn OBE, QC as Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands.  Mrs. Penn previously served as Attorney General of the Virgin Islands from 1992 to 1999.

Mrs. Penn will formally take office on 20th September 2004 and while holding the office of Deputy Governor will render only public service.

Simultaneously with Mrs. Penn’s appointment, Her Majesty has been pleased to revoke the existing appointment of Mr. Elton Georges CMG, OBE who has served as Deputy Governor since 1983.

Mrs. Lisa Penn-Lettsome, Permanent Secretary (Administration), who has been acting as Deputy Governor since the beginning of 2004, has indicated that she does not wish to renew her contract as Permanent Secretary.

In announcing these changes, the Governor said “Mrs. Dancia Penn brings a wealth of experience to this post from inside and outside the public service.  The BVI is fortunate to have been able to secure her services.  At the same time, I should like to reiterate the Territory’s thanks to Mr. Elton Georges for an unparalleled career of public service, and to wish him well for the future.  I should also like to thank Mrs. Penn-Lettsome for her contribution both to the Deputy Governor’s Office and in previous public service roles”.
