POLICE INVESTIGATE THE DROWNING OF A WOMAN AT CANE GARDEN BAY

Police are currently investigating the death of a woman who drowned at Cane Garden Bay Beach.

On November 10, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. it was reported that a drowning had occurred on the Cane Garden Bay Beach. Police arrived at the scene in the vicinity of Myett’s and observed a body lying motionless on the sand.  The body was later identified as the body of 84-year-old Edith Rath, a native of Germany on vacation at Columbus Sunset Villas.

The body was examined for a pulse, but there was none and a small bruise was observed over her right eye. Investigations revealed that earlier that morning the deceased fell and sustained the bruise over her right eye.  Around 11:45 a.m.  someone noticed a body floating in the water and retrieved same in a kayak.

Mr. Keith Sharrett of the U.S.A., and an EMT on vacation aboard a cruise ship performed CPR for ten minutes, but got no response. The body was pronounced dead by Dr. Scatliffe at 1:22 p.m. and was transported to Davis Funeral Home.
