Smith, Fahie competes in Jr. College Championships

 Ludence Smith and Kevin Fahie closed out their Jr. college career for Central Arizona College at the NJCAA Championships in Levelland, Texas over the weekend. Smith had a 1:57.3 carry on his leg as his 4x800m relay team placed third in 7 minutes, 46.74 seconds. Smith did not advance to the open 800 meter final after running 1:59.73.

Teammate Kevin Fahie opened the mile rely with a 47.1-seconds leg, but they missed the finals after running 3:14.90. Central Arizona College finished second overall with 123.5 points.

Sharks beat Eagles Western Union U-12 Soccer Festival crown

 Chris Brockbank scored a hat trick as the Trident Trust Cedar Sharks shut down the Nagico Belle Vue/Enis Adams Eagles for a 4-0 victory to win the U-12 Western Union Soccer Festival title. George Fay scored the other goal. In the bronze medal game, the TMF Willard Wheatley Wolves beat the Virgin Portraits Montessori Magic 3-0 on penalty kicks after playing to a 0-0 tie at regulation. Before the U-12 championships, the Trident Trust Cedar Sharks beat the Rob Swain Sailing Montessori Magic 2-0 on penalty kicks to win the U-9 Primary Schools league, after playing to a 1-1 draw.

Barbados’ 40-plus beats BVI Under 19 squad in one day encounter

Alli Odle’s unbeaten 85 not out guided a touring Barbados 40-plus team’s victory over the BVI’s Under 19 team last Friday. Scores: Barbados 208 for 6 off 26 overs. Under 19, 98 for 9. B’dos: Glendon Johnson 32; Jeffrey Padmore 27; Ronaldo Kellman 17. U-19 bowling: Sheldon John and Rohit Tangutorri 2 for 15 and 2 for 29. Alberto Hewlett and Timon Robinson 1 for 21 respectively. Under 19 team batting: John 40 not out. Barbados’ bowling: Weldon Squires 3 for 16; Melvin Noel 2 for 18. Renaldo Kellman and Odle 1 for 19 and 1 for 31.            

Cay Sports stun Cavaliers

Cay Sports knocked BVI Cricket Association league champions Cavaliers from the unbeaten ranks with a stunning loss Sunday at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.

Scores: Cay Sports 101 from 20.3 overs. Cavaliers, 83 off 23.5 overs. Top Cay Sports batsmen; Winston Davis 33 not out; Hugh David 17; Gregory James 15.

Weekend trial match set

A team from the U.S Virgin Islands will meet their BVI counterparts in a two-day match on Saturday and Sunday at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, to select the Combined Virgin Islands team for the Leeward Islands Cricket Association tournament. The Combined Virgin Islands will play its first three-day game during the weekend of May 28 in St. Kitts.
