BVI cyclists to compete in weekend 75
mile race in Anguilla
BY DEAN GREENAWAY
Four BVI cyclists will compete in Sunday's 75
mile John T. Memorial race in
Anguilla. The team is comprised of; Chris Ghiorse, Neil Thomas, Conrad
Emanuel, and Jim Cullimore.
"For the pat three years we have been going to
this race, it has grown and
grown immensely and this year they are expecting their biggest turnout
yet," Cycling Federation president David Thomas noted. "The BVI team feels
really confident about our chances this year. Unfortunately, national
champions Phillippe Leroy won't make the trip because he hasn't been able
to train, so it doesn't make sense for him to go."
Ghiorse and Emanuel rode the race last year while
Neil was an observer. All
three will be riding in the road bike section while Cullimore will contest
the mountain bike division. "This will be new for him because he has never
done it before," Thomas said.
Thomas said last year's results were good based
on races in that they
competed in, in St. Vincent, St. Croix and Anguilla. "Those three guys are
actually much wiser and they did a weekend training ride and I'm happy with
what I saw," Thomas said. "With a couple road races under our belt, I think
it's just a matter of us going out and doing our best. I know that we can
hang out and survive this year."
