Tortola Wins Basketball Tourney

Four of the top basketball teams in our region got together over the week-end to play in a pre-league tournament organized by the ministry of sport. The tournament opened on Friday night with Virgin Gorda’s Mistics playing against the USVI All Stars to a final score of 75 St.Kitts and 69 Virgin Gorda. For St.Kitts Glen Phillips scored 18 points, 14 rebounds, Trevor Huggins 14 points and Shawn Forbes 12 points and 15 rebounds. For Virgin Gorda Gary Hillhouse 17 points, five steals, Hilroy Warner 10 points and Dennis Alister nine points.

In game two on Friday Tortola De Boyz defeated Virgin Gorda Mistics saw Kennedy Bass with 23 points, Steve Parillon 15 points and Dwayne Penn ten points and eight rebounds. For the St.Kitts Hitters Trevor Huggins seventeen points and Glen Phillips 14 points and nine rebounds.

On Saturday night game one the UVI All Stars defeated St.Kitts by a score of 68 to 60. For UVI Curtis Maduro scored 25 points, Calvert White 10 points. For St.Kitts Marvin Davis scored 19 points and Glen Phillips 17 points.

In game two Tortola defeated neighboring Island Virgin Gorda by a score of 76 to 57. Randy George 25 points, with Kennedy Bass 13 points and Ronald Simmonds, , 12 points. For Virgin Gorda Gary Hillhouse scored 16 points, Devon Watty 10 points and ten rebounds.

On the final day on Sunday Virgin Gorda defeated the USVI Stars 88 to 70 in game one. Keithley Farrel27 points, three steals and three assists, Gary Hillhouse 15 points , ten rebounds, four steals, three assists and Hilroy Warner 13 points and six rebounds. For the USVI Curtis Maduro 17 points, Julian Baa 10 points thirteen rebounds and Kwesi Howard 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In game two the Tortola defeated St.Kitts 67 to 58. Kennedy Bass lead the way with 23 points and five steals, Steve Parillon 15 points and Dwayne Penn 10 points.
