Supremacy beats Rushing Away by eight lengths

BY DEAN GREENAWAY

Now that he has beaten all who have beaten him after before, after posting an easy eight lengths wire to wire victory over Rushing Away on Sunday, Supremacy is looking to beat his St. Thomas nemesis in the upcoming August Festival Races.

“Supremacy was ready today. He was ready for them. He’s out of the Spider Grounds Stables and they got caught in the web today,” Eli “Boogie” Hodge said after Supremacy pulled away from Rushing Away entering the second lap of their one mile duel to win in 1:44 flat. “Rushing Away wasn’t going anywhere from me today. We told the jockey to set a good break and let Rushing Away catch him if he could. That was it.”

With the victory, Hodge turned his attention to the August Festival races. “We want a mile or more come August Tuesday. If you watch the tapes, Supremacy has beaten all the horses that have beaten him, so we know who we looking to see come Tortola,” Hodge said. “I don’t have to say, but they in St. Thomas know who they are,” he said. “Let them come.”

In the other one mile race, Walley got a late start in his duel with World of Promise, then made up the distance but fell off the pace on the second laps and lost by nine lengths. World of Promise had a winning time of 1:48.0.

The six race card opened Carmello Twist making his debut over five furlongs and turning back Honest Past. His winning time was 1:02 flat. Quaker rat was scratched. Mountain Man held off Fabulous Cherokee and Arabian Dinner to take the other seven furlong race in 1:33-1/5.

With Peanut Prospect and Livermore Run scratching from race three, it became a two horse race between Smooth Legend and Peluzo Panzi Panzi. Smooth Legend led from the start of their 7 Furlong duel then held off Peluzo Panzi Panzi’s charge in the final four furlongs to win in 1:35 flat.

Como Babe showed the way with Miss Rae on his tail for the first half of their six furlong  race while Princess of Heather stayed off the pace three lengths behind. Princess of Heather made her move on the back stretch and slipped past Miss Ray on the final turn, then ran past Como Babe in the final furlong for a one length victory in 1:19.0.
