Anegada to open Botanic Gardens

Visitors to Anegada and residents alike will soon enjoy another attraction being created on the island.

In a few months, Anegadian Shirley V. Walters hopes to officially open a project she has been working on for the past three years a Botanical Garden. The garden boasts a growing variety of trees and plants, such as bougainvilleas, which add to the beauty and sustainability of the area. Ms. Walters told the Island Sun Monday, she started the project with the idea of just putting some aesthetic quality in that area, which she describes as sitting in a cul de sac shaped like a triangle in The Settlement, coming from the airport.

Mr. Wilfred Creque donated the land for a community project. "It started with collecting rocks and picking up bottles, then I spoke to government and got some flowers…I do need some benches and a log book and donation bucket for the gate… but, it's coming along nicely," she said. Already, visitors to the area envision using it as a site to take wedding photographs or just to sit and relax and enjoy nature.

Ms. Walters said she is now awaiting water connection to the site. "It's really a labour of love for me and I do work very hard on it," she stated
