CABLE & WIRELESS UNVEILS NEW OLYMPIC COMMITTEE PHONECARD
Cable & Wireless British Virgin Islands released a special phone card on
Wednesday featuring members of the BVI Olympic Committee Team for 2004.
The cards were presented to President of the BVI Olympic Committee Mr. Rey
O'Neal and Vice President Mr. John Lewis during a ceremony at C&W's Road
Town offices.
"Cable & Wireless has been an ardent supporter of the BVI Olympic Committee
since 1992 and is proud to be associated with some of the finest athletes
the BVI has to offer," said C&W Chief Executive Mr. Vance Lewis. He said
the company continues that support during this Olympic Year with the
unveiling of a new phone card.
The phone card is in the denomination of $10.00, featuring the picture of
Messrs. Dean Greenaway, Dion Crabbe, Steve Dudley, Dag Samuels, Ralston
Henry and Cliff Williams. The cards will be on sale through the Olympic
Committee, Cable and Wireless' Customer sales and services centres in Road
Town and Virgin Gorda and its phone card agencies, as of Wednesday February
4th, 2004.
The sale of these cards will aid the BVI Olympic Committee in defraying
expenses associated with training, equipment, traveling, meals and
accommodations necessary to compete, not just in the Olympics, but in all
athletic events throughout the Caribbean and globally, Mr. Lewis stated.
The Olympics will be held in August this year in Athens Greece and the BVI
Committee will send a small team. According to Mr. Rey O'Neal, while the
team has not yet been selected, it is likely to include Dion Crabbe,
Taheisha Harrigan, Keita Clyne and Eric Matthias.
He said it is difficult at this stage to say how much money will be needed
to send a team to Greece, but it will run in excess of $50,000 to cover
training, physiotherapy, meals, accommodation etc.
"I'd like to express our sincere gratitude for the continuing support of
Cable & Wireless," Mr. O'Neal Said. "It is very difficult to imagine what
our task would be without the sort of corporate support we've gotten, most
consistently from Cable and Wireless, but from other local firms as well."
