VIRGIN GORDA
CENTENARIAN
Mrs. Viva George
turned 100 on 12 December. She is pictured here with Opposition Leader Hon.
Ralph T. O’Neal, Chief Minister Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith, and Deputy Chief
Minister Hon. Ronnie Skelton. A highly skilled dressmaker, Mrs. George has made
her birthday dress for most of her birthdays including this 100th celebration.
The Virgin Gorda native spent most of her life in New York where she married
Elmer George and served on the board of the Virgin Gorda Mutual Society for many
years. On her return to Virgin Gorda she became involved in community matters
and she is a very active member of the Virgin Gorda Choir. Several events were
staged to celebrate her century of achievements. The St. Mary Anglican Church,
the Social Security Board and District Representative Hon. Ralph O’Neal held
parties in her honour. His Excellency
Governor Tom Macan presented Mrs.
George a card of birthday greetings from H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.
