BVI to participate in Olympic
Games opening ceremonies
The British
Virgin Islands will be among 202 countries participating in today’s opening
ceremonies of the 28th Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Last night,
the delegation was officially welcomed to the Olympic Games Village, during a
ceremony held at the International Zone.
Sprinter Dion
Crabbe who will compete in the 100 and 200 meters when track and field gets
underway on August 20, joined the delegation last night from his training base
in Amsterdam, and will carry the flag in the opening and closing ceremonies.
The bulk of
the British Virgin Islands’ arrived in Athens, Greece on Tuesday. Head track and
field coach Dag Samuels and Olympic Youth Camp participants Leniece Lewis and
Bryshaun Scatliffe, were greeted by Chef de Mission Dean Greenaway, team Attaché
Margaret Stathapolou and team assistant Tsianta Paraskevi at the Athens airport.
Lewis and
Scatliffe are attending the Youth Camp that runs from August 11-26.
