Expo Chicks slip by Lady Cougars 16-15 to stay unbeaten

The Expo Chicks escaped defeat by scoring a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to slip by the Lady Cougars 16-15 and remained unbeaten the BVI Little League Association’s girls’ softball league.

Defending champions Lady Cougars scored seven runs in the seventh to tie the game at 15-15, after trailing 15-8 heading into their last at bat. They held the Expo Chicks scoreless in the sixth. But with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after using a combination of walks and errors to load the bases, while catcher Shenovia Thomas was throwing the ball back to the pitcher, Takiyah George raced home with the Expo Chicks’ winning run.

Shamora Penn got the victory while Khiayah Doward took the loss. George was 2 for 4, scored three with 3 RBIs. Reema Fahie had a 3 for four game with one run batted in. Thomas was the Lady Cougars’ leading hitter going 2 for four including a seventh inning bases loaded triple.

In the first of four 9-12 division games, the Blue Jays trimmed the Wildcats 7-6. Deron Smith was the wining pitcher. Shayne Pullock took the loss. Pullock had a two run first inning homer in two at bats. Kirk O’Neal was 2 for 2 with one run batted in. Kadeem Gumbs was 2 for 3 as the Wildcats top hitter.

In the other 9-12 division game, the Giants beat the Warriors 12-5. Melvin Belle was the winning pitcher while Leeshawn Smith was tagged with the loss. Jharel Cotton was the Giants’ top hitter going 2 for 2 with two homers, scoring twice with 4 RBIs.

The Belle Vue Banco Popular Depositors took a double header from the HWR Expos in their 9-12 division contest. After winning the opener 16-3, the Depositors used two homers from Joseph Smith to win the night cap 25-5. Smith collected on three run homer in the first then added another in the third to finish with six runs batted in on a 3 for 3 day.

The Tico Cubs nipped the Virgin Gorda Rockies 10-9. Jahmal Allen who relieved Ron Hatchett in the second was credited with the victory while Chayne Defreitas who was chased in the second and relieved by Travis Issac was the losing pitcher. Hatchett was the top hitter, going 2 for 2, scored twice, with three stolen bases and 2 RBIs.
