Rangers complete unbeaten run in Virgin Gorda Football play

Rangers used second half goals to complete their unbeaten run in the Virgin Gorda Football league, with a victory the Old Blys. Fitzroy Thomas scored on a penalty in the 69th minute to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Rohan 'Chi Chi' Lennon added an insurance goal in the 85th to cement the win. Old Boys' Fitzroy Daley was red carded in the second half. Troy Williams scored the lone goal in the 30th minute as Spice United beat Hairoun 1-0. Hairoun's Leo Warren received a second half red card for flagrant play.

Smith-Hughes, Raworth and McKenzie top Rugby league play

Smith-Hughes, Raworth and McKenzie continued their dominance in the BVI Rugby Football Union Autumn Mixed Touch Rugby League, with an overwhelming 4-0 victory over the lowly Waterbabies. Ian Jamieson opened the scoring early on with a breakaway try, which was quickly followed up by a second touchdown by flyer Rob McIntyre who scored his second try of the tournament. The Waterbabies sought to respond early in the second half, but their depleted team, missing three regulars, was unable to turn around the match. Barry Mitchell scored a third for S-H,R,M after soaking up the Waterbabies pressure, before Frank Kalama scored a contentious fourth try to rub salt into the wounds.

Harney, Westwood and Riegels raced to a 7-0 halftime lead to beat the Tortola Sports Club 7-2. Tineke Sweiss had tries after quick bursts down the wing, for HWR's early lead. Nadeem Sweiss made it 3-0, when the charged through the exposed Tortola SC defense. Johan Terblanche and Les Elliot then put the match beyond doubt for HWR by half time. Despite some creative play and good possession, Tortola SC were unable to overturn the massive deficit, though tries from Rich Reading and Howard Stanton kept them from tumbling into last place.

Jason Bally Memorial 100K on October 5

An 8 a.m. remembrance service on Sunday, October 5, will be held in Sea Cows Bay by the BVI Cycling Federation in honor of slain Trinidadian cyclist Jason Bally, followed by a procession into Road Town, ahead of the 100K race. The 9 a.m. race begins at the Old Festival Village Site, heads to the West End turnaround go east to the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, back to West End, with two loops of the Prospect Reef and Port Purcell Roundabouts before finishing at the Festival Village Site. More than 60 visiting cyclists are expected. One lane on the Dual Carriageway will be closed to accommodate the race. Motorists are advised to be cautious on the roadway.
