After relinquishing the junior division crown of Summer Hoops Xplosion Tournament when Run It Red beat his Dutty Dawgs 65-62, Morris Wattley came back with All Ah We in the senior championships to win the A division title.

Young Legs led 19-17 after the first quarter, before All Ah We put the game out of reach with a 24-12 second quarter run to win 80-70 going away. Chaurbin Smith led All Ah We with 27 points. Jahmal Rabsatt added 16. Young Legs’ Ronnie ‘Gola’ Simmonds scored 23 of his game high 33 points in the first half and dished out 10 assists. Anthony ‘Thin Man’ Bobb finished with 16 points. Rhennie ‘Gumba’ Phipps added 11 and dominated the boards with 17 rebounds.

“I had a better team,” Wattley said after the victory. “I had 9-10 players and they only had six. They got fatigued and they had no coach. I think that made the big difference.”

Assistant tournament director Linell ‘Eraser’ DeFreitas said while it went well, the organization wasn’t as strong as last year. “Nothing was like we expected it to be. We had a makeshift venue with improper seating,” DeFeitas noted. “Our biggest challenge was just getting the court prepared. We started from scratch-no rims, bleachers or paint. We had to work hard with a short time to prepare for the tournament.”
