Summer Jam Basketball League Championships set to begin

Summer Jam Basketball League best of five championship series opens this weekend on Virgin Gorda at the Valley Arena, featuring Ice Connection and Jam Squad contending for the A division title, after eliminating Matrix and Bigger Judgment respectively over the weekend. Ice Connection's David 'Bolo' Lettsome had 25 points to lead five players in double digits in a 97-74 triumph over Matrix. Lettsome had seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. Devon Wattley had a 20 point 11 board double double. Jamal 'Trigga' Rabsatt and Keithroy Farrell chipped in 18 and 14 points respectively.

Rhennie 'Gumba' Phipps finished with 12 points and dominated the boards with 21 rebounds. Gary Hillhouse had a game high 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead Matrix. Jeffrey George added another 16 points. Jam Squad slipped past Bigger Judgment 86-85, behind the 37 point scoring of Clive Huggins. He also had 11 rebounds and five steals. Ronnie 'Gola' Simmonds added 22 points and dished out six assists. Alton 'Sugar' Vanterpool led Bigger Judgment with 24 points. Bob George and Len Berry contributed 16 points each. Cronics earned the right to meet Young Gunz for the B division title, after beating Young Shottas 90-78. Nathaniel Malone had a game high 28 points to lead Cronics, while Dalvern Blyden had 23 points, pulled 16 rebounds and dished out six assists. Nichols Charles led Young Shottas with 26 points. Keith Burroughs and Marley Caines chipped in 21 and 20 points respectively. Burroughs also pulled 16 rebounds. The Starz will meet Pure Playaz for the C division crown after pounding Young Pure Playaz 102-42. Jerome Demming and Lee Evans Jacobs had triple double in leading the Starz. Demming had a game high 36 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals, while Jacobs finished with 24 points, 17 rebounds 11 steals and dished out eight assists. Andrew Barth missed a triple double with 18 points 19 boards and eight steals. Trevone Stevens led Young Pure Playaz with 19 points and nine rebounds. Pure Playaz edged South Siders 61-60 for their trip to the C finals. Leando Creque led all scores with 15 points. Lyndon Chiverton added 14. Juan Guzman had 14 points to lead South Siders.
