Edwin returns to
collegiate basketball with 13 points for Kent State
BY DEAN GREENAWAY
Junior forward Jason Edwin
returned to collegiate basketball last Friday and played a solid
game as the five starters hit double figures in Kent State
University’s Golden Flashers 111-52 season opening victory over
Houghton (N.Y.) College. Edwin had 13 points on 6 for 12 shooting
from the field in 21 minutes on the court.
After playing with Warsaw, Ill. High School where he helped them to
a 27-2 record, Edwin joined the St. Louis University Billikens and
played his last collegiate game during the 2001-02 season before he
was declared academically ineligible. He attended Southeastern
(Iowa) Community College during the 2002-03 season but did not play
basketball to preserve his eligibility at an NCAA Division I
institution.
“Kent State was the only school that really understood my
situation and what I going to do to turn around,” Edwin a 6’6”
220 forward said. “Kent State has been successful for the past
five years now and it just seems like a good place for the next two
years I have to play ball. They want me to come in and be the go to
guy, so I can’t ask for more than that right now.”
The 111 points marked the first time since a 116-76 win against
Marshall University, Feb. 19, 2002, that KSU has gone over the
century mark Kent State has now won five straight season openers and
13 of the last 15. The Flashes have also won 15 straight home
openers and 23 of the last 24 ... It is the largest margin of
victory since a 60-point win versus Wilberforce(110-50) Nov. 25,
1998.
Meanwhile, Steve Parillon scored 21 points and grabbed a game-high
10 rebounds to lead Henderson State to an 86-77 win over West
Georgia, Saturday at the West Georgia Classic. Parillon scored 15
points to lead Henderson State to a 65-52 win over West Alabama, in
Friday’s opener of the classic.
