2003 BVI Cricket Association season opens with exciting match

The 2003 BVI Cricket Association/Cable and Wireless league opened Sunday at
the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds with a colorful parade as teams for
the first time broke away from the traditional white with colorful uniforms.
Shortly after the ceremonies, man of the match Dillon Lawrence guided the
President's XI to an exciting victory over a Cable and Wireless XI.
Lawrence had a respectable 36, as the President's XI reached 173 from their
30 overs then gave their opponents 174 for victory. Lawrence's 36 included
seven fours, with Kevin Joseph producing a supporting 33. He had four fours
and a six. Vijay Jhappan contributed18. Dave Johnson and Jason Thomas added
16 respectively. Leslie Ambrose and youth player Andre Ryan bagged 3 for 24
and 3 for 21 respectively off five and three overs.
Lawrence and Decosta Jeffers slowed the Cable and Wireless XI drive and
combined to bowl them out for 160 in their 30 overs. Reaz Ali had four
fours before he was out for 35. Vishal Bharat also had four fours for his
22. Lincoln Liburd had a supporting 20.
Lawrence who won the best performer prize, snatched 2 for 24 from five
overs. Jeffers grabbed 3 for 14 off six overs including one maiden. League
play will begin this weekend ahead of the Leeward Islands Cricket
Association tournament at the end of May.
Teams in the league includes; Cay Sports, Morgan & Morgan Rivals,
Cavaliers, Liat Stars. Cafesito, Police and two Virgin Gorda teams.
