Thanksgiving Service held for the late Ellen Louise Romney-West
Ellen Louise Romney-West, daughter, sister, student, teacher, aunt, wife,
mother, grandmother, poet, artist, musician, radiant Christian, faithful
member of the Zion Hill Methodist Church.
Those were the words used by Mrs. Inez Archibald, as she eulogized the late
Ellen Romney-West, who died in Puerto Rico on 6th March, 2003.
Her survivors include husband Paul D. West; children Dawn Opal West-Mathey
and Guy David West; grandchildren Skylar P. Mathey and Rachel Y. Mathey;
brother Ruhner I. Romney; sisters Alice de Windt, Doris Smalls, Geraldine
Peterson, Esther Turnbull, Vicki Romney-Varlack, Urma Creque and Vivian
Hodge-Powell; son-in-law Richard John Mathey; many nieces and nephews; a
host of godchildren, other relatives, close friends and loved ones and the
Zion Hill Methodist Church family.
A service of thanksgiving was held on Saturday March 15th at the Zion Hill
Methodist Church, with the interment held at the family burial ground in
West End.
In the many tributes paid to the late Ellen Louise Romney-West, she was
also described as loving and caring, one who loved nature and the arts, a
woman of integrity, a forgiving woman, a generous woman and a fabulous
cook. She is also tributed as one who loved family, one who appreciated
life, a woman of faith and fortitude and a servant on a mission.
At the service, musical tributes were rendered by Rachael Mathey, Nicole
Donovan, the Zion Hill Senior Choir and Josh Groban. The service was
officiated by the Reverend Charlesworth Browne and Rev. Lester Bowers.
The family and relatives of the late Ellen Louise Romney-West say a
heartfelt thank you for your prayers, visits, phone calls, cards, flowers,
sympathy, love and support during this time of bereavement.
The publishers, management and staff of The Island Sun express condolences
to those who are left to mourn.
