After beating Young Guns in four sets, Terminators display their hardware

Terminators and Raw Power II win BVI Volleyball Association titles

Terminators needed four sets to overhaul Young Guns, while Raw Power II swept the Chixs, as they won the BVI Volleyball Association men's and women's championships.

Terminators beat Young Guns 25-19 before Young Guns came back to take the second set 26-24, after trailing 13-9 in a set that had seven ties. Terminators overcame Young Guns' early third set lead for a 25-22 win before closing out the match 25-18.

"I couldn't be more proud of my team than tonight," player/coach Elsworth Phillips said. "Much respect to Young Guns. We know that we are the best two teams in the BVI and every time we come out it's a dog fight. But, we know we are the best team here and tonight it showed."

Young Guns coach Kwele Williams congratulated Terminators on good game and a very good season. "I've been telling my guys all year what you put in is what you get out," Williams said. "We are talented yes, but, with the extra effort, Terminators were doing that work, so they ended up with the results tonight." Williams said games were close for the first 16 points. "From 16-25, I don't think my guys had the legs to really compete tonight. They got a little tired coming down to the end and I think that's what got Terminators over the edge."

Raw Power II took the Chixs in straight sets 25-19, 29-27 and 25-21. Coach Willis Potter said his strategy was to block Jackie Weeks, which he said would force her to dink. "Once she dinks, we have the ball, and easy transition." Potter said his team beat the Chixs on experience. "It feels good to win," Potter who fielded two other women's team and one men's team said.

Weeks said she's very proud of her team. "I'm only one person but Raw Power came out with three blockers on me and I had to change up my game a bit," player/coach Weeks noted. "I was playing my game and trying to help the others," she said of her team comprised of players under 17 years. "Potter is my national team coach and he knew exactly what to expect. That's the advantage that he had."
