MORE ANEGADIANS GET LAND TITLES

A number of persons on Anegada received titles for lands during a presentation ceremony on June 5th.

Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Reeial George pointed out that the repeal of the Anegada Ordinance in the early seventies no doubt laid the foundation for the title distribution.

“It was during the tenure of Mr. Omar Hodge as Minister of Natural Resources and Labour, that he was fortunate in assigning retired Judge Barrymore Renwick who is now deceased to develop the appropriate guidelines that have been accepted by the government and the people of Anegada resulting in earlier lands distribution and indeed the transfers that are being distributed today,” Hon. George stated.

He said he hopes this will allow the recipients the unique privilege of developing on one of the world’s finest islands. He said he also hoped that Anegadians who are privileged to own a piece of this land would preserve it and pass it on to succeeding generations.

Minister George said surveying is ongoing for the distribution of Anegada lands and more transfers to lands will be made in the very near future.
“It is my fervent hope that in the very near future, a proper land use plan will be discussed with the people of Anegada that will allow for the orderly development of the island,” Hon. George stated.

During the ceremony, he also announced the approval of compensation for Anegada Airport Lands by the Executive Council.
