Volleyball League playoffs set to go

The BVI Amateur Volleyball Association wrapped up regular season play over the weekend, as playoffs are set to begin on Saturday and Sunday, ahead of the June 14 championship series. All playoff teams saw action over the weekend. The Chixs defeated the HLSCC Stingrays in straight sets 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18. Jackie Weeks had six kills and eight for the Chixs. Lauren Welch had nine kills and five digs to lead the Stingrays. 
Young Guns needed four sets to get past Turbulence 25-21, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-15. 

Young Guns’ Joseph Davis had 22 points to lead all scores. Dion Anselm added 21 with 5 kills 5 blocks. Neville Braithwaite finished with nine points and seven kills. Andre Braithwaite topped Turbulence with 20 points and 12 kills. Oren Hodge chipped in 17 points with seven kills. Ricardo Wheatley added another 13 points with nine kills. In Sunday’s season finale, Te-Sito beat the Chixs 25-18, 25-23 and 25-16, behind Debra Maduro’s 17 points and five kills. Alicia Penn had 16 points and six kills. Patricia Romney led the Chixs with 18 points while Jackie Weeks had 12 kills and 7 points. 

East End stays unbeaten in Sea Cows Bay B’ball league

East End Long Look stayed unbeaten in the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club Y2K ‘B’ League tournament and will head to the weekend championships. East End Long Look stopped Huntums Ghut 81-74, behind Dalvern Blyden’s 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tad Martin and Jahmal ‘Trigga’ Rabsatt added 17 points respectively. Huntums Ghut had a game high 22 points from Dellon Mills. Jeremy Wattley and Nathaniel Malone added 19 and 15 respectively. Careem Scatliffe and Winston Farrington Jr. had 29 points a piece as Belle Vue turned back West End 78-68. Marlon ‘Spier’ Meyers had 18 points and 10 boards to lead West End. Douron Phillip and Richard Jack contributed 15 and 13 each. West End forfeited their next game to Huntums Ghut 2-0. In the final game, East End Long Look downed Sea Cows Bay 70-59. Avrey Percival had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Dalvern Blyden had an 18 point 17 board double double. Travis Malone finished with 17. Reynaldo Smith was Sea Cow’s Bay leading scorer with 14 points. McKenzie Baltimore and Damian Parillon added 11 points respectively. 

Shutouts highlights Primary Schools Soccer League

League leaders Amicorp Willard Wheatley Wolves got goals from Dante Blair and Chevon Hanley to beat the Althea Scatliffe Scorpions 2-0 in the BVI Football Association Primary Schools league play. Trident Trust Cedar Sharks blanked the Trident Trust Lenora Delville Dynamos 7-0 on Alec Anderson’s hat trick. Rory Thornton added two goals while Roan Thornton and Myrex Hodge had one goal each. George Fay scored the lone goal as the Montessori Magic trimmed the BCQS Ebenezer Thomas Saints 1-0. Points standings. Willard Wheathey, 10. Cedar and Montessori, 9. Belle Vue, 5. Althea Scatliffe, 4. Ebenezer Thomas and Lenora Delville 2. Ivan Dawason 0. 

Sports Division ‘Walk for Life’ on Saturday 

As a part of its fitness month activities, the Sports Division presents a ‘Let’s get physical and walk for life’ walk from the New Life Baptist Church to the Sports Division, at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The goal of this event is to establish a walk for life club.
