Smith and Fahie record personal bests

Ludence Smith and Kevin Fahie had personal best performances Friday at the Mesa Classic in Mesa Arizona. Smith trimmed his best to 2 minutes 02.38 seconds in the 800 meters then contributed a 49.6 third leg carry on his teams' 4 x 400 meter relay second place finish in 3:17.04. Fahie who will represent the BVI at the weekend Carifta Games in Trinidad, had a personal record of 49.57 for third in the 400 meters. He anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay with a 48.6 leg. Eric Mathias had a throw of 49.68 meters (163') on Saturday Fahie helped his 4 x 400 relay team to a season's best 3:12.07 by splitting a 48 second third leg. Smith will compete at a triangular meet at Glendale Community College on Friday.

BVI Little League Baseball round up

The CCT Boatphone Expo Chicks built a 10-2 lead en route to an 18-14 victory over the Trident Trust Twins, avoiding a sweep of the series. The East End Expos held off the Smiths Ferries Mariners late charge for a 9-8 victory after leading 9-4. East End Expos moved into playoff contention with a 21-4 victory over the Cable and Wireless Chicks. The Sandcastle Red Socks hanged on for an 8-7 victory over the HWR Wildcats after blowing an 8-2 lead. The Banco Popular Depositors cashed the Arias Fabrega and Fabrega Astros 13-2. The Ocean Spray Mets got past the Smiths Ferries Mariners II 11-5.

BVI Cricket Association season opens April 26

The BVI Cricket Association/Cable and Wireless league will open on April 26, with eight teams contesting the league, in 15 limited overs matches. Opening ceremonies are set for 11 a.m. with a match between the President's XI and the Cable & Wireless XI starting at noon. Teams registered for the league includes; Cay Sports, Morgan & Morgan Rivals, Cavaliers, Liat Stars. Cafesito, Police and two Virgin Gorda teams.
