Terminators dominate weekend Volleyball to stay unbeaten

By DEAN GREENAWAY

After the first three games of the 2003 BVI Amateur Volleyball Association league, Terminators have distinguished themselves as the men's team to beat. On Saturday evening at the Belle Vue Gym, Terminators collected the first of two weekend victories and improved to 3-0 after a straight set 26-24, 25-22 and 25-16 triumph over the Young Guns. Setter Osbert 'Cushung' Pole led all scores with 16 points, with Wayne 'Baby Fat' Campbell tossing in 14. Damien Creque added 11 points, eight kills, seven blocks and four digs, while Denfeld 'Doc' Solomon had 11 kills and six points.

Terminators returned on Sunday and flogged Raw Power 25-9, 25-22 and 25-11. Pole had a top score of 17 points. Frandi Martin contributed 13 with eight kills. Creque and Solomon finished with 11 points, while Solomon also had six kills. Rhennie 'Gumba' Phipps had Raw Power's top score with seven points, to go with six kills, six digs and five blocks. Willis Potter had six points, six blocks and six digs.

Raw Power II, one of the four teams in the Raw Power family, opened the second weekend of the league by sweeping the Chixs in straight sets, to set the tone for the other Raw Power teams, but they all faltered.

Raw Power II powered past the Chixs, a youthful team of players under the tutelage of Jackie Weeks and sprinkled with a few veterans, who will eventually be a force to reckon with. Raw Power II opened with a 25-2 triumph, before settling for a 25-17 and 25-16 victory. Pearline Scatliffe and Jackie Ladoo were Raw Power II's leading scorers with 17 points. Symone Penn added 16 with five kills while Taylia 'Tweety Bird' Nibbs chipped in 12. Weeks led the Chixs with seven points and five digs while Regina Hewlett had another six.

Te-Sito overcame a nine point third set deficit to beat Raw Power 2K 25-23, after grabbing the frist two sets 25-18 and 25-21. Marcia Stoutt and Erica Smith-Penn were the top scorers with 16 and 15 points respectively. Alicia Penn missed a double double with 10 points and nine kills. Michelle Todman-Georges added another 13 points.

This weekend, Raw Power II will meet HLSCC Stingrays and Raw Power 2K vs Chixs on Saturday. Te-Sito will face the HLSCC Stingrays and Young Guns will come up against Turbulence on Sunday.
