The Strongman and Woman II is set for October 21

BY DEAN GREENAWAY

East End Long Look's Community Mad Dog Gym, is spearheading the Red Bull Strongman Strong Woman II competition in association with Body Works Gym, Cutting Edge and the Abraham Leonard Fitness Center, at Long Bay, Beef Island, on Monday, October 21.

Where really is the strongest man or woman in the BVI, at any of the gyms or walking the streets of the BVI? Wherever they are, they will be crowned at Long Bay, and organizers have promised to showcase them, along with the best body builders on island, according to Enius 'Butch' Pickering, one of the event organizers.

Pickering says he's expecting a good turnout of competitors and spectators. "We are looking forward to a grand day," Pickering said. "It's going to be fabulous. With the competitive spirit of the guys from the other gyms, I can predict a competitive day."

For those competing in the body building category, Pickering says they are expected to go through seven compulsory poses, execute a 2-minute routine and complete the routine with a pose down, which will determine the overall winner. "There will be winners in each category, but the pose down will give an overall winner."

Besides weight lifting and body building, Pickering says there will be an endurance test, which will include an obstacle course, running through and rolling tires, lifting heavy sand bags and pulling a car across a distance of 50 feet. "This will put competitors to the test without a doubt," he said.

Pickering too is looking forward to the competition. "I'm going into the competition hungry, driven and focused," he said. And with that positive competitive spirit, should come positive results."

Registration for the competition will begin at 10: a.m. with competition starting at 11:30. DJ Turbo will provide the music and food and drinks will be on sale.
