Bodybuilding and fitness championships set for Saturday

BY DEAN GREENAWAY

The newly formed BVI Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation teams up with Red  Bull, to present its bodybuilding and fitness championships at 8 p.m. on  Saturday, at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School.

In addition to local  male and female participants, guest posers Vernon Francis of St. Kitts and  Darren Gumbs of Anguilla, will make appearances. The show will also  feature the Sadler Dance Group from Cutting Edge, Ballet, Judo and Purple  Dragon action.  "The public can expect a good show, something they can look forward too,  not only now but in the future," Cutting Edge fitness guru Sandra Gumbs  said. "We are expecting to have body builders from the local gyms on the  program in addition to the guest posers."  Gumbs says that the visiting posers have a variety of experiences and  championships under their belts, including competitions in Venezuela.

Men  will be doing seven compulsory poses while women will have five. "They  will be judge by body proportion and symmetry," Gumbs said. "We are  looking for the body that looks like a body builder."  Each competitor will have a pose down, and go through a variety of other  poses set to music of their choosing. "After the pose down, there will be  an overall winner," Gumbs said. "But, there will be winners in each of the  weight classes."  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Children's tickets cost $5.
