Government
ups contribution to Xmas on Main Street
The
government has announced an increase in its contribution to the
organizers on the annual Christmas on main Street programme.
The
event will be held December 6th and 7th on Main Street in Tortola
and
December 13th and 14th in Virgin Gorda.
It
will be the 4th annual Christmas on Main Street to be organized and
sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Small Businesses
and is
considered to be one of the main events for the season. Some 36
vendors
will be showcasing their products this year.
"Since
I have responsibility for Trade and the overall economy, I am
pleased that my government is supporting this event through a
contribution
of $15,000," Chief Minister the Honourable Ralph T. O'Neal
announced
Monday. "Last year, my government contributed $10,000, so I
hope the
increase in funds will help the Association to mount an even better
event."
Chief
Minister O'Neal said this is an important and worthwhile venture
that
allows businesses to display their products outside of their regular
confines. He congratulated the organizers and participants of this
year's
event, who he said go the extra mile to present the territory's
offerings
at this cultural outlet.
"I
would also like to take this opportunity to encourage the public
topatronise our businesses to help strengthen the economy,
especially around
Christmas time," he concluded.
