Blue Wings are co-champs in St. Maarten tourney

Defending champions Blue Wings returned from the Easter Weekend Pellie
Maarten Invitational Softball tournament in St. Maarten as co-champs with
St. Croix All Stars, after rains whipped out the championship game. The
Lady Braves were eliminated after losses to St. Maarten's Pellie Maarten
and the St. Croix Croixettes.

The Blue Wings open play with an 8-2 victory over the St. Croix All Stars.
The Blue Wings had 8 runs, 10 hits, 2 errors and 6 left on base. The St.
Croix All Stars 2 runs were on 5 hits, 2 errors and 3 stranded. Raymond
'Mahasa' Mercer was the winning pitcher while Elroy Bates took the loss.
Mahasa was 2-4 with a homer, one scored and 2 RBI's. Freddie Penn was 2-2
with one scored and Brian 'Bash' Brewley 2-3, scored once and had one run
batted in.

The Blue Wings improved to 2-0 with a 13-6 victory over the St. Maarten
Stars. Neville 'Sheep' Smith came on in relief of Jason 'Mad' Fonseca and
fanned 12 and 4-1/3 innings for the win. The Blue Wings had 13 runs, 8
hits, 5 errors and 4 left on base. St. Maarten Stars 6 runs, 7 hits, 7
errors and 5 left on base. Andrew Mullins took the loss.

Top Blue Wings hitters were Rodney Skelton, 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2
runs batted in. Mahasa had a solo homer in four at bats, scored once and
had 2 RBI's. Melvin 'Jah Mouth' Christopher had a solo homer in the fifth
and scored three times.

In a rematch with the St. Croix All Stars, the Blue Wings suffered a 9-1
setback, on a 3-hitter by Rael Sackey. Mahasa took the loss. The St. Croix
All Stars had 9 runs, 8 hit, 1 and 3 left on base. The Blue Wings had 1
run, 3 hits, 6 errors and 4 left on base. The St. Croix All Stars beat St.
Maarten Stars 9-1, to finish with the same 2-1 record as the Blue Wings
for a share of the title.

Meanwhile, the Lady Braves lost to St. Maarten's Pellie Maarten 17-12, in
a game where they gave up 16 walks. Pellie Maarten had 3 hits 2 errors and
10 left on base. The Lady Braves had 11 hits, 4 errors and 7 left on base.
In their second game, they lost to the St. Croix Croixettes 15-4.
Croixettes had 12 runs, 4 hits and 7 stranded. Lady Braves 4 runs, 5 hits,
11 errors and 4 runners left on base.
