BVI BANS MEAT IMPORTS FROM EUROPEAN UNION

Stemming from the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the United Kingdom, the BVI is in the process of banning meat imports from all European Union countries. The ban targets mutton, lamb, beef, and pork from the aforementioned countries. The Foot and Mouth disease is a highly contagious viral affliction that affects cloven-hoofed animals, with extremely devastating economic repercussions. Animal most vulnerable to the disease are cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour Sheila Brathwaite says the Ministry has asked the Attorney General's Office to Prepare the necessary instrument to bring the ban into force.
