NEW MOORINGS RESTAURANT NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Residents of the BVI will be pleased to learn that the restaurant at the Moorings Mariner Inn and bar is now open for business once again, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. A fire about one year ago destroyed the facility and a temporary restaurant was set up on the grounds. Re-construction of the popular restaurant and bar began in November 2000 by Reliable Construction. According to General Manager of the Mariner Inn Hotel and Restaurant Mr. Myron Walwyn, the finishing touches are now being done to the first phase of the re-build, which is the bar and restaurant.

That section, which has four different levels of seating and can accommodate up to 80 persons, reopened Monday January 15th.
“We have seen a dramatic improvement since Monday and we feel pretty confident we’ll get back the local following. After all, we boast a nice ambience, good service and good food,” he stated. The second phase of construction – the kitchen – is ongoing and is expected to be completed by February 15th. Work has started on the third phase, which consists of the dining room area. On completion, the dining room would be able to seat 150 persons. “This new bar and restaurant facility is like night and day to the old facility,” Mr. Walwyn told The Island Sun.

He said the new kitchen is much more modern and state of the art, and will be much more efficient for workers and kitchen personnel. “When completed, we would have the capacity to hold functions for up to 400 persons, compared to the previous 250.”
An overall improvement programme is ongoing at the Moorings, to include a new customer service centre with an ATM machine, a new food market operated by K-Mark’s, a new dive shop run by Underwater Safari and new showers now being built for yacht charterers. As part of the general changes taking place, Mr. Walwyn himself was appointed General Manager of the Mariner Inn Hotel & Restaurant back in August 2000, while Mr. Clarence Malone manages the yacht operations.
