St. Kitts-Nevis Mourns Passing Of Ambassador Sir Lee L. Moore

BASSETERRE, ST KITTS - The Chief Ministers of Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands, the Premier of Nevis and the Leader of the Opposition in Antigua and Barbuda have expressed sincere condolences to Prime Minister Dr the Hon Denzil L Douglas on the death of the Federation's Ambassador to the United Nations, Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore, who died in New York on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

British Virgin Islands Chief Minister, Hon Ralph T. O'Neal, said Sir Lee was "a brilliant scholar and his death is no doubt a great loss to his family and the Nation." Chief Minister O'Neal said the contribution Sir Lee made "not only to his Nation but the Caribbean was most significant and sometime we can only wonder why there must be this untimely end but life must go on and we can only hope that someone will arise who take his place." Mr O'Neal noted that Sir Lee did practice in Tortola at the Virgin Islands Bar and "he will be sorely missed."

Nevis Premier the Hon Vance Amory in his message of condolence to Prime Minister Douglas said it is never easy to contend with the loss or death of anyone, but especially one who seemed still to have so much to contribute to the continued development and evolution of his country. Mr Amory said all who knew Sir Lee could not help but be impressed with his immense intellect, his wry sense of humor and vast knowledge of so many things. "His skill as an orator was very widely known and greatly appreciated . I am certain that he would be sorely missed by all his family and friends and colleagues in all walks of life in his native land and in the world as a whole," the Nevis Premier said.

 

Chief Minister Hon Osbourne Fleming on behalf of the Government and People of Anguilla in expressing sympathy noted that Mr Moore was an eminent lawyer and advocate "as well as statesman, politician and parliamentarian and his passing has left a void that would be difficult to fill."

Saba's Lt Governor, the Hon Antonie Solangier in expressing sympathy on behalf of the Government and People of Saba said Sir Lee has made a valuable contribution to the islands of St Kitts and Nevis and the region and the people of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis will miss him tremendously..

Ambassador to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis Her Excellency Mrs Katharine Chang extended condolences on behalf of the Government and People of Saba..

In a message to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Sam Condor, the ROC diplomat said Ambassador Moore's achievement and contribute to St Kitts and Nevis will always be remembered by all.

"The entire Caribbean region will mourn your loss of one of your illustrious sons. Our prayers are with Ambassador Moore's family and the Government and people of the Federation," said Ambassador Chang.

St Eustatius Senator and Netherlands Antilles Member of Parliament, Hon Clyde van Putten expressed shock at the passing of Sir Lee.

"His sterling contribution to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, the region and international community will always stand out. Sir Lee Moore was truly committed to Caribbean integration," said Mr van Putten, who is also the majority Leader in the Island Council of St Eustatius.

Antigua's Leader of the Opposition, Hon Baldwin Spencer in expressing sympathy to Prime Minister Douglas said St Kitts and Nevis and indeed the Caribbean have lost yet another patriotic son and brilliant mind. Spencer, who is also Assistant General Secretary of the Antigua Workers Union also extended sympathies to Mr Moore's immediate family and close relatives.
