MORE STAFF TO BE ADDED SOON The personnel of the Anegada Public Works Department depot is going to more than double in the near future from a staff of two to a staff of five. The extensive road network and the increasing influx of tourists to the second largest island of the BVI archipelago are some of the reasons for the increase of the staff at the Anegada PWD depot. Chief Minister, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal told journalists on Monday that, as envisaged by the recently approved budget, the staff of the PWD depot of the northernmost island will be augmented and vacancies for one depot superintendent, one carpenter and one road labourer are being advertised. Mr. O’Neal underlined that “Anegada is on the front burner” and in recent years there has been a sizable increase in the number of visitors to the 13 square miles island. He noted that he is quite satisfied with the “type of development” taking place in Anegada. The Chief Minister said that the Anegadians are the leaders of this development which takes into consideration the fragile echology of the island. Among recent projects he mentioned the construction of several cottages, the expansion of a local hotel and other hospitality-related developments. Mr. O’Neal told The Island Sun that the number of flights has visibly increased and larger numbers of visitors reach Anegada. |
