Marion Creque-Sargeant Departed This Life

Marion Alexandria Creque-Sargeant of Road Town, Tortola died on Sunday night at Peebles Hospital after being hospitalised for about a month. The late Marion Sargeant was born in Road Town March 14th, 1910 to Adelaide Smith-Abbott and James Robert Creque. She attended the St. Georges School and then the Road Town Primary School. On leaving school, she worked as a Nurse at the then Cottage Hospital. After she got married in November 1945 to George Sargeant, a native of Antigua, together they operated a grocery store, bar and general store on Upper Main Street. Out of this union, Marion and George Sargeant had two children - Sadie Sargeant-Winter of Lower Estate and Winfield Sargeant, who resides in New York. Mrs. Sargeant leaves to mourn 11 grandchildren - 8 grandsons and 3 granddaughters and several great grandchildren. She was the only surviving Creque of her father's. Special relatives include her nieces (especially Alma Flax) and nephews of her deceased three brothers and one sister, special caretaker of four years - Sylvina Thompson, her special stepdaughter Mrs. Esmie Nibbs. Funeral arrangements were being made for this weekend. The management and staff of The Island Sun extend condolences to those who are left to mourn.
