Government Continues To Strengthen Capacity Of Outer Islands The government of the BVI continues to strengthen the capacity of the sister islands to ensure that projects undertaken are completed and to avoid unnecessary inconveniences to residents. In that light, Chief Minister Hon. Ralph O'Neal announced the appointment of Mr. James F. White as Superintendent at the Public Works Department on Anegada, effective April 10th, 2000. Mr. White's responsibilities will include supervision of skilled and unskilled workers in areas such as masonry, carpentry and plumbing, in the daily execution of duties relating to construction and the maintenance of public buildings, roads, bridges, drains, culvert placement and retaining walls. Additionally, Mr. Rudolph W. Francis was also appointed on April 10th on Anegada, to provide major and minor maintenance repair on buildings, exterior and interior carpentry. He will work under the supervision of the Superintendent. Meantime, government has also strengthened the Police Force on the island of Anegada. "There used to be just one Policeman, sometimes two; now we have made it definitely three," the Chief Minister continued. He said on Jost Van Dyke, two more Officers have been added, bringing the staff there to three - a Sergeant and two Constables. And on Virgin Gorda, there will also be additional policemen. "This is necessary to ensure that as the population increases and traffic increases and all other activities, that the police will be there to keep abreast and to make sure that law and order is well maintained," Hon. O'Neal stated. |
